An Educational Administrator, May 1984 – June 2012, Swanier served as Assistant Dean for Operations & Strategic Initiatives, College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET) – Jackson State University, Jackson, MS 39217; Responsible for collaborative research initiatives; public information; oversight for facilities, inventory and safety; strategic partnerships; program management, marketing and other tasks relevant to the effective implementation and operation of CSET strategic initiatives; also, coordinated relationships with National research laboratories for students to receive relevant research experiences; and, secured $4M+ annually to support CSET research initiatives. Initially, Swanier served as Assistant Registrar and Director of Veterans Affairs at Jackson State University from November 1977 to May 1984.

Swanier is engaged in private business ventures – SJS Enterprise, President – focus is on Investments, Management and Marketing; The LEAD Group, LLC, Co-Managing Partner & Secretary – focus is on business empowerment and economic development (built, own and operated Sleep Inn & Suites, December 2010-June 2015; building was leased to Jackson State University for student housing (July 2015-June 2018), and is currently operating as OYO Hotel Downtown Jackson; two additional buildings, totaling 10,000 square feet, owned by the LEAD Group are leased to several tenants for retail business purposes.
